Hypothesis Number 1
Lets say the ultimate end-goal is to be satisfied. Not happy. Satisfied. That is to say, what you are looking for, in life, is satisfaction with your current state of affairs. Look at yourself, your life, and ask if you feel satisfied. If you are satisfied with the way things are, then there is nothing that needs to be changed. You don't need to embark upon any new ventures, you don't need to make any drastic changes in your life. It is perfect. All you need to do is maintain that perfection. But is it ever possible to be maintain status quo indefinitely? Frankly, the stress of trying to maintain that perfect, yet delicate balance in itself is not worth the try. You cannot maintain something forever. That much is pretty well documented. So, then, maybe you should accept changes in life, because they are inevitable? But that would mean you let life do whatever it wants to you, that you have absolutely no control over what happens, and that, is at least partially false. I don't this this satisfaction business is leading us anywhere.
In your mind, you have built this ideal universe that your deserve to live in. Where life is fair to you, where you get what you feel is your due. And then you look at you real life, and most probably see a gaping difference. Let's assume that once, you were in that perfect state, and then events happened in your life, and the ideal and the real moved away from each other and have been moving away, ever since. You see this difference, and it leaves you with a feeling of incompleteness, of dissatisfaction. Of course you want things to go back to being the way they were, but then how much can they really go back? Where should you compromise? Where should you draw a line? When should you say, "I am satisfied with what I have achieved, and I can accept the rest of the changes,as they are?"
Let's think about it for a while.
